Washington, PA (March 27, 2017) - The Washington Wild Things have agreed to terms with two players, INF Kane Sweeney and OF Rashad Brown, for the #Celebrate15 season. Both players will travel to Washington in late April for Spring Training with the club.

Sweeney joins the Wild Things after playing two seasons with the New York Yankees. Appearing in over 100 games, Sweeney is a career .290 hitter with 71 RBI. The 6’3” first baseman was selected in the 29th round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Morehead State University. Sweeney tortured Ohio Valley Conference opponents his junior and senior year, hitting 34 doubles, 24 HR and 110 RBI.

“Kane had nearly a dozen offers on the table to play; he and his wife selected Washington. The connection our staff made with Kane is the sole reason why he chose to be a Wild Thing,” said General Manager, Steven Zavacky.   “We believe there is an upside to his game that we can unleash. His leadership and maturity will go on long way in the clubhouse, but his resume in the batter’s box speaks for itself.”

Outfielder Rashad Brown enters his 6th season of professional baseball, after a dynamic career with the Detroit Tigers. With over 1000 professional at-bats, Brown averages nearly a hit a game and scores close to 30 runs per season. Over the past two seasons Brown stole 30 bases and drove in 50 RBI. The Atlanta native plays a style of baseball that should fit well in Washington.

Zavacky noted, “He is very eager to play here on our turf. We expect to see Rashad Brown at the top of the lineup, putting pressure on defenses. The career numbers he has posted for the Tigers are really impressive, and he shows the willingness to set the table for our run producers.”
