Hill to Fill Hot Corner
The Washington Wild Things have agreed to terms with INF Mike Hill, after completing three seasons with the Kansas City Royals.
Playing his collegiate ball at Long Beach State, Hill shined his senior season hitting .271 and a team leading 8 triples. The Dirt Bags finished second in the Big West that season and Hill got his share of aforementioned dirt, stealing 16 bags along the way. Being selected in the 22nd round, Hill was assigned to Idaho Falls and became good friends with Wild Things catcher Kyle Pollock. The two then played together again in 2015 at Lexington where the California native smashed 6 HR and drove in a career high 37 runs. In his three year career Hill totaled; 52 doubles, 13 triples, 19 HR and 101 RBI.
“Third base may be the most difficult position to address in professional baseball. Finding a player who can defend the hot corner at a high level, yet provide meaningful offensive contributions is always a challenge. Mike should certainly be a standout for us and I know he is excited to play with Kyle again. He received glowing praise from Royals’ legends George Brett and Mike Sweeney. We are happy Mike chose Washington as his landing spot in 2017.”, GM Steven Zavacky proclaimed.
