Sabol Signs with Washington
The Washington Wild Things have signed OF Stefan Sabol, who has spent the previous 5 seasons with the New York Mets. Sabol, cousin of Steeler legend Troy Polamalu, was nicknamed the “Swingin’ Samoan” during his time with Mets and he looks to bring a thunderous bat to the Washington lineup.
Sabol was selected by the New York Mets in the 17th round out of Orange Coast College in 2012 (same JUCO as current LHP Brian O’Keefe and former INF Austin Wobrock). His best statistical season was in 2015 when Sabol hit .258 with 23 doubles and driving in 47 runs. In his 5 year career with the Metropolitans, the California native smashed 86 doubles and 32 HR. His 188 career RBI are the most of any current Wild Thing on roster and his experience at the dish will be a large asset to the club.
“Stefan is a team first guy who has played a big role in a few Championship runs for the Mets organization. We have been pursuing him since the fall and excited to make this official. Last season he was hampered by a handful of nagging injuries, that limited his playing consistency, but his skillset fits our design this season. Sabol has the ability to leave the yard in a hurry, but also create some havoc on the base paths.” GM Steven Zavacky outlined.
Tickets are now on sale for the #Celebrate15 season. Opening Weekend will be May 19th-21st, as the Wild Things take on the Windy City Thunderbolts. Book your night out at the ballpark by calling 724-250-9555 or visiting our website at WashingtonWildThings.com
