Wild Things Make Series of Roster Moves

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington Wild Things made a series of transactions today, Wednesday, June 14, prior to beginning a six-game homestand. Among those moves, right-handed pitcher Trevor Belicek was released with left-handed pitcher Vince Apicella being activated from the disabled list. The team also announced the signing of one who will be activated with no corresponding moves necessary: shortstop Justin Bohn.

Apicella, who was put on the disabled list during the last Washington homestand, will be activated for tonight’s doubleheader against River City. The southpaw has tossed 6.2 innings of three-run ball in four appearances this season while striking out seven and only walking two.

Belicek was released after a rough start to the 2017 campaign that saw him make five starts and appear in a sixth game, pitching 23 innings in total and sporting an earned run average of 10.95. Belicek was 1-3 and had struck out 19 batters in his 23 innings of work.

The signee announced today is shortstop Justin Bohn, who for the last three seasons has played for the High-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, the Jupiter Hammerheads. He’s made it as high as Double-A in the Marlins organization, but struggled at the plate in 26 games this year, hitting .159 with one home run and eight RBI. In 2015, Bohn hit .262 and had four home runs. In each of the last three seasons, Bohn’s fielding percentage has been over .950 at the shortstop position.

The Washington Wild Things open a six-game homestand tonight at 6:05 with a doubleheader against the River City Rascals.
