Washington Signs Another Starting Pitcher, Release Two
WASHINGTON, Pa., June 18 - Today the Washington Wild Things announced the signing of another starting pitcher, the second in as many days, with the addition of Trevor Bradley to the roster. Consequently, the team announced the release of outfielder Stefan Sabol and right-handed pitcher Jordan Schwartz.
Bradley, who comes the team’s way fresh off a career at Georgia Gwinett College, where he played both shortstop and pitched, will start tonight’s game against Evansville. At GGC, Bradley was teammates for a season with Wild Things’ teammate David Adkins, and GGC is also the alma mater of catcher John Fidanza. Fidanza graduated in 2014, but has familiarity with Bradley from when he finished up school.
After redshirting the 2015 season at NCAA Division II USC Aiken (SC), Bradley made the All-Association of Independent Institutions Tournament team in 2016, a season in which he sported an on-base percentage of .409 with 40 RBI and 13 extra-base hits. In that year as well, Bradley was impressive in 12 appearances on the mound, pitching to a perfect 6-0 record with 52 strikeouts to 10 walks. In 42.1 innings pitched in 2016, Bradley had an ERA of 1.91 and in a game set the GGC single-game strikeouts record with 12. In 2017, Bradley played both positions again, but was 8-4 on the mound with a save in 83 innings of work. He struck out 89 and walked 26 with an earned run average of 3.14.
The signing comes with the release of Sabol and Schwartz. Sabol appeared in seven games for the Wild Things and had one RBI. Schwartz pitched 21 innings in seven appearances (two starts), and had an earned run average of 9.00 with 19 strikeouts and just six walks.
