Wild Things Announce Two Roster Moves With No Corresponding Moves
WASHINGTON, Pa. - Following last night’s game against the Gateway Grizzlies, the Wild Things made a pair of roster moves. The team released second baseman Alex Fernandez and placed right-handed pitcher Mark Smyth on the retired list. There has not been a corresponding move for either transaction yet.
Fernandez played in 33 games for the Wild Things during the first half and was 20-119 (.168) at the plate with two home runs and 14 runs batted in. Fernandez struck out 42 times and walked 16 times in 137 plate appearances.
Smyth, who was placed on the retired list, did not have a wins-loss record in nine appearances with the team this year. Smyth tossed 15.1 innings and gave up 13 hits and nine runs (eight earned). He walked six and struck out eight and had an earned run average of 4.69. The former West Liberty star had struggled of late, giving up at least a run in three-straight appearances.
The Wild Things’ active roster now stands at 22 (12 position players, 10 pitchers) as the All-Star break begins. Washington returns to action Friday at home against the Windy City ThunderBolts. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
