Hector Roa Comes Up Big in Series-Clinching Win

SAUGET, Ill. – Hector Roa, the Wild Things right fielder, matched two game highs for the Wild Things in 2017 as the Washington Wild Things [36-29] were able to clinch a series win against the Gateway Grizzlies (20-46), by winning Saturday night 6-1.

Washington fans got their first taste of right-hander Ethan Gibbons on the mound for the Wild Things, as the newest pitcher on the roster tossed six innings of one-run ball in his debut with the team after getting the starting nod. Gibbons, with the win, is now 6-4 on the season. He gave up four hits and walked one while punching out four Grizzlies. The lone run came on a home run by Joel McKeithan in the first inning.

The scoring started early for the Wild Things as first baseman Kane Sweeney hit a solo shot in the first inning to give Washington a lead. After the McKeithan home run, it was all Wild Things, as the next five runs were accounted for by two Roa home runs. The right fielder hit a three-run shot in the fourth and two-ru blast in the seventh. All of the Wild Things’ runs were accounted for by home runs in the victorious effort.

In the game, catcher Kyle Pollock also matched a game high for Washington in the aging season, as he collected four hits including a double, having a perfect 4-for-4 night. Sweeney had the home run and another couple of hits, finishing the day 3-for-4 with an RBI on the solo shot and a walk.

To close the game, Washington turned to right-handed reliever Davis Adkins, who pitched the final three innings without allowing a run to earn the save.

The Wild Things look to close the trilogy with a third win tomorrow night, and get revenge on Gateway after being swept by the Grizzlies earlier in the month by sweeping the set on the road. First pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EST.
