Wild Things Announce Trade

Washington, PA – The Washington Wild Things have traded OF CJ Beatty and RHP Tim Giel to the Sussex Miners of the Can Am League in return for outfielders Jamal Austin and Ryan Mathews as well as a player to be named later.

Austin, a native of Powder Springs, Georgia, spent time with the New Jersey Jackals and the Sussex County Miners in 2015.  The Right-hander tallied 30 stolen bases and 43 runs on 98 hits including eight triples and fourteen doubles in 91 games last season.

Wild Things fans may remember Ryan Mathew who spent a brief time in Washington during the 2015 campaign.  The Orlando native also spent time with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHaws last summer.  The graduate of North Carolina State drove in 35 runs throughout the 2015 season, including eight home runs and 11 doubles.

"We are excited to add Jamal and Ryan to the mix for 2016. Both were dynamic playmakers in the Can-Am League and should transition well to playing in Washington," said General Manager Steven Zavacky.

CJ Beatty, who has been with Washington since 2013 was a two time Frontier League All Star.  Giel, who is a Gibsonia native, completed the 2015 season with a 4-5 record and a 3.78 ERA.

The Wild Things will open their 15th campaign in the Frontier League on the road in 2016.  The home opener is scheduled for Friday May 20th.  Ticket and group packages are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
