Mike Marshall Signs as Wild Things’ Hitting Coach
World Series Champion to Coach Wild Things’ Bats
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things announced the addition of a new hitting coach for the 2016 season - former Major Leaguer Mike Marshall will join the Wild Things’ staff.
Marshall played all or part of 11 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1981-1991. He was a member of the 1981 and 1988 World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, and he also spent time with the New York Mets, the Boston Red Sox and the California (now the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) Angels. Marshall was named to the National League All Star Team in 1984.
In 1985 Marshall hit .293 with 28 home runs, 95 RBI with a .515 slugging percentage. He was 14th in the National League MVP ballot that year.
In the 1988 World Series, he hit a three-run-homer in the bottom of the third inning of game two, helping his Dodgers to defeat the Oakland Athletics.
"Being part of a first class staff in a premiere league is an exciting endeavor for me,” said Marshall. “I am hoping and planning on playing a small part in winning a championship this year; can't wait to get started!"
Marshall currently serves as the Associate Head Baseball Coach at Western New Mexico University. He has been heavily involved in recruiting for the Cowboys.
“We are all excited to add Mike Marshall as our hitting coach,” said Wild Things’ field manager Gregg Langbehn. “The players will take an immediate liking to him and soon find out he will go above and beyond his duties to make each and every player better the second they report to Washington! He is a tireless worker, and he cares about the players and can provide them with the information they need to further their careers.”
Since the team’s inception in 2002, a total of 11 Wild Things coaches have played Major League Baseball, and with the addition of Marshall, two have owned World Series Rings!
The Wild Things will open their 15th season of Frontier League Baseball in May. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 20th. Season and Group packages are available at the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office.
