Wild Things Recap May 17
Joliet,IL - The Washington Wild Things took on the Joliet Slammers in game one of their second series of the season on Tuesday at Silver Cross Field. Despite a successful start to the season, the Wild Things fell to Slammers by a final score of 6-1.
The Slammers got out to an early lead in the top of the first. Singles by Charlie White and Phillip Bates set up the first run of the game with an RBI single from Alfredo Rodriguez. The Slammers tacked on two more runs to go ahead 3-0. Wild Things pitcher Brandon Hinkle (0-1) closed out the inning with his first strike out of the season.
The Wild Things threatened to cut the lead in the second with an RBI single from David Popkins. Two straight walks advanced Popkins to third, but he failed to reach home. Popkins led the Wild Things with three hits on the day.
Carter Bell turned out be the equalizer for the Slammers as his RBI double in the 5th extended the lead for Joliet to 6-0. The Wild Things broke the shutout in the top of the 6th with an RBI single from Scott Carcaise, scoring David Popkins. That would be it for the Wild Things as solid pitching from Spencer Medick (1-0) seemed to be enough for Slammers.
The Wild Things look to rebound tomorrow night in game two against Joliet. First pitch is at 11:05 AM EDT. The video streaming of the game can be found by logging on to washingtonwildthings.com.
