Otters Beat Wild Things 5-2
EVANSVILLE, IN – The Washington Wild Things (32-32) traveled to Evansville Indiana Tuesday night to begin a three game series with the Evansville Otters (36-29) at Bosse Field. Washington fell to the Otters in game one by a final score of 5-2. Starter Luke Wilkins (2-4) is charged with the loss, surrendering five runs and striking out four batters in six innings pitched. Evansville’s Preston Olson (4-2) struck out three and surrendered two runs in six innings.
The Wild Things got off to a hot start in the top of the 1st; loading the bases on a walk, single by Chris Grayson and hit batter. Washington cashed in on the bases loaded opportunity as Logan Uxa drove in Andrew Heck with a single and fielders choice that gave the Wild Things a 1-0 lead. The Otters answered in a productive first inning of their own with RBI singles from Chris Breen and Christopher Riopedre that gave Evansville a 2-1 lead.
The Otters capitalized once again in the bottom of the 2nd with a Kolten Yamaguchi lead off single. Yamaguchi was brought home on a wild pitch to Josh Allen, which extended the lead to 3-1. Back to back singles from Chris Breen and Nik Balog set up two more runs for the Otters in the bottom of the 3rd, which again extended the lead to 5-1. The Wild Things cut into the Evansville lead in the top of the 6th, courtesy of a Logan Uxa leadoff solo home run that cut the lead to 5-2. Washington attempted a late inning comeback with singles from Andrew Heck, Ricky Rodriguez and an RBI single from Logan Uxa in the top of the 9th that cut the lead to 5-3.
