Wild Things Fall To Windy City
WASHINGTON, PA – The Washington Wild Things (35-39) traveled to Windy City Thunderbolts (36-39) for a three game set starting August 13, 2016. Washington fell to Windy City 6-5 in the nine-inning competition.
RHP Luke Wilkins (2-6) recorded the loss on the hill for Washington – in his 5.1 innings on the mound, Wilkins allowed five hits and produced six strikeouts. RHP Austin Delmotte (2-0) was the winning pitcher for Windy City.
The Thunderbolts were the first to score; Coco Jones executed a lead off double, and was brought home by a Charley Thurber single. Cody Keefer homered in the second, and Taylor Smart crossed the plate when Coco Jones knocked a sacrifice fly.
Washington answered the Thunderbolts’ early three runs in the third when Austin Wobrock, Andrew Heck and Chris Grayson scored. The game remained tied until the sixth when the Wild Things took the lead on a Thunderbolt passed ball.
The Thunderbolts retook the lead with three unearned runs in the sixth. Washington threatened in the ninth when Chris Grayson scored on a David Popkins sacrifice fly. In the end, the Thunderbolts won the outing 6-5.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow, Sunday, August 14, 2016 in a doubleheader at Standard Bank Stadium beginning at 5:05 p.m. EST
