Washington Wins Series Against Windy City
WASHINGTON, PA – The Washington Wild Things (35-39) traveled to Windy City Thunderbolts (36-39) for a Sunday, August 14, 2016 doubleheader to complete a three game set. Washington won the series with two victories tonight.
RHP Zac Grotz (4-2) earned the win on the mound for Washington in game one. In his 6.0 innings on the mound, Grotz allowed six hits and struck out six Thunderbolts. LHP Brady Muller (3-8) recorded the win for Windy City.
Washington scored four runs in the first inning off of three Windy City errors. The Wild Things tallied the scoreboard in the fourth and fifth from Andrew Heck and Kyle Pollock RBIs. Windy City threatened in the second and fifth, recording one run in each. Washington won the first game with a score of 6-2.
In game two, RHP Chase Cunningham (5-8) recorded the win for the Wild Things. In 6.0 innings, Cunningham allowed only three hits and shutdown four thunderbolts. RHP Kolin Stanley (3-1) earned the save on the outing. RHP Brian Loconsole (1-3) tallied the loss for Windy City.
Washington scored first in game two when Alvaro Gonzalez scored on a Justin Garcia sacrifice – making the outing 1-0 in favor of Washington. Windy City took the lead in the sixth when Corey Bass blasted a two run homerun. However, the Wild Things answered with two unearned runs in the seventh. Washington executed nine hits in game two, and triumphed over the Thunderbolts with a score of 3-2.
The Wild Things will continue their road trip Tuesday, August 16, 2016 against the Traverse City Beach Bums starting at 8:05 p.m. EST.
