Wild Things Win Series Over Boomers
The Washington Wild Things (41-41) and the Schaumburg Boomers (37-47) competed to see who would win a three game set during a Sunday, August 21, 2016 matchup. Washington won the outing with a score of 8-1.
RHP Matt Fraudin (7-6) was the winning pitcher for the Wild Things – during his seven innings on the hill, Fraudin shutdown four Boomers and allowed only five hits. His ERA drops to 2.91. RHP Scott Schultz (4-6) recorded the loss for Schaumburg.
The Wild Things erupted offensively in the third, scoring six runs in the bottom half. Chris Grayson drove in Austin Wobrock with a double to crack the scoreboard, followed by a two RBI single for Ricky Rodriguez. Jimmy Yezzo had the fifth hit of the inning – a three-run homerun that gave the Wild Things a 6-0 lead.
The Boomers earned one in the fifth when Mike McClellan double. However, Washington’s offensive didn’t slow down; Alvaro Gonzalez homered in the sixth and Kyle Pollock drove in a run in the eighth.
The Wild Things will play Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in a doubleheader against the Traverse City Beach Bums at CONSOL Energy Park. Tuesdays are “Two Dollar Tuesday” where soda and hotdogs are only $2.
