Wild Things Blitzed by Otters in Game 2
EVANSVILLE, In. (Sept. 16) – The Wild Things were blitzed in the second game of the Midwest Finals Wednesday night at Bosse Field, falling by a final of 12-3. The Wild Things never got anything going offensively while the Otters had another big night with the bats at home, scoring their 12 on 17 hits and taking a commanding 2-0 series advantage in the best of five.
Washington scored three batters in on an Andrew Czech groundout that plated Miles Simington, who doubled to start the contest. That was all Washington got until the game was out of hand. Jeff Liquori hit a solo homer in the seventh for his first of the playoffs.
Evansville got five in four innings against Kobe Foster on seven hits, six hits and four runs off Jack Brodsky in his inning and four this and three runs off Colt Anderson in 0.2 innings pitched, scoring 12 straight starting in the third. The Otters plated a run in the third, a run in the fourth and five in each of the next two innings.
Michael O’Hanlon worked the final out of the sixth before authoring a clean seventh inning. Andrew Czech added an RBI double to plate a run in the eighth for Washington. O’Hanlon ended up pitching a 1-2-3 eighth before Washington went down in the ninth, without scoring again.
Friday’s game is now an elimination game as Washington trails 2-0 in the series. It’s believed the last time a team came back from down 2-0 in the Frontier League’s best-of-five format was in 2010, so Washington will seek to become the first team since then to do it and claw its way into the Frontier League Championship Series.
First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 6 p.m.
