Brocato Sets New HR Record for FL Single-Season in Friday Win
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 4) – The Washington Wild Things took home the series opener against the Schaumburg Boomers on a historic night in Washington that got historic quickly. The Wild Things won 9-2 and saw Anthony Brocato, who was named an All-Frontier League outfielder yesterday, notch his 37th homer of the season to break a 28-year-old Frontier League single-season record.
Brocato’s solo shot followed a 1-2-3 top of the first by Frontier League Pitcher of the Year Kobe Foster. The homer to right snapped the tie between Brocato and MVP namesake Morgan Burkhart, who clubbed 36 homers in 80 games in 1998. Brocato’s long ball also extended his hit streak to 13 games and his on-base streak to 20 games, both of which are season bests.
Washington wasn’t done in the first, scoring three more highlighted by an RBI book-rule double by Connor Peek and a two-run single by Antonio Monroy. Leading 4-0, Washington saw Kellum Clark hit his 13th homer of the year in the second to trim the lead. That lead was extended when the 2026 Frontier League MVP Andrew Czech belted his 27th homer of the season to center, making it 6-1 on the two-run blast in the second. The power show continued in the third with Isaias Quiroz’s fifth homer of the year. That made it 8-1 in the third.
A double by Banks Tolley plated a Schaumburg run in the sixth against Michael Foltz Jr., who was on in relief of Foster. Kobe got the win with five innings of one-run ball. He scattered four hits and posted four strikeouts. Foltz Jr. The lefty worked a clean seventh before giving way to Michael O’Hanlon in the eighth. O’Hanlon’s zero followed an RBI fielder’s choice by Caleb Ketchup, which made it 9-2 Washington in the seventh. Mack Anglin worked a clean ninth for the seal of the win.
Washington is now a season-high 33 games over .500 and winners of seven in a row. With the other results in the Midwest Conference in, Washington is slightly closer to finding out who it will play in the Wild Card round. Florence defeated Windy City, which re-ties the Y’alls and Bolts for the final wild-card spot and keeps the Bolts back a game in the West trailing Schaumburg entering the penultimate day of the regular season tomorrow.
Saturday’s game features a baseball card pack giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the gates presented by Seton LaSalle High School. It’s also Faith and Family Night at EQT Park. First pitch against the Boomers is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Gates open an hour and five minutes before that.
