Czech, Foster Win Major Yearly Honors, Brocato Joins Them as All-Frontier League
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Sept. 3) – The Washington Wild Things are thrilled to share big news announced by the Frontier League today. Andrew Czech has been named the league MVP, Kobe Foster is the league’s Pitcher of the Year and those two players are joined by outfielder Anthony Brocato on the 2026 All-Frontier League team. The Wild Things swept the MVP and Pitcher of the Year honors for the second time in franchise history (2018).
Andrew Czech was named the Morgan Burkhart Award winner for league Most Valuable Player for the first time in his career, becoming Washington’s fourth ever winner of the honor. He joins Josh Loggins (2003), James Harris (2018) and Caleb McNeely (2024) as players to win the award. Czech is amid his sixth season in a Wild Things uniform, and, entering the final four games of the regular season for the newly crowned Central Division champions, Czech has a slash line of .333/.483/.679 (1.163 OPS) with 28 doubles, a triple, 26 homers and 101 RBI.
Czech leads the Frontier League in OBP, SLG and OPS, is tied for the league lead with 101 RBI, is second in homers (behind Brocato), and is second in walks (92). He’s set single-season records in RBI, walks drawn and runs scored, while he’s become the career leader for Washington this season in RBI, doubles and walks. He’s now second in franchise history in hits and had the 500th of his career during the previous homestand to the one Washington is in the midst of. The current OBP record for the club in a single season is .478 (Nick Ward, 2022), the slugging percentage record is .659 (Josh Loggins, 2003) and the OPS record is 1.098 (Ward, 2022). He’s on pace to beat all of those as well.
Czech was named Frontier League Player of the Week and earned his second midseason All Star selection this season. The Reminderville, Ohio native and former Walsh University standout has enjoyed arguably the best statistical season in team history and one of the best in Frontier League history. He was also selected as the All-Frontier League 1B, edging out Florence’s Hank Zeisler and others in a well-contested battle.
Kobe Foster is this year’s Brian Tollberg Award winner for the league’s Pitcher of the Year, becoming the fifth Wild Thing in team history to win that honor (Jared Howton, 2002; Aaron Ledbetter, 2007; Thomas Dorminy, 2018; Ryan Hennen, 2021). Foster is 9-3 this season with a save in 94.2 innings of work on the hill and owns the league’s best earned run average at 2.38, which is first among qualified pitchers by roughly .80. He’s walked only 22 and struck out 82 with a 0.970 WHIP.
He threw the fourth no-hitter in Wild Things history on June 12 against the New Jersey Jackals, a week after blanking the Florence Y’alls for a shutout and nine-inning complete game. He was named Frontier League Pitcher of the Week after both of those outings and was named a midseason All Star before starting that game in Florence. In the no-no, he fanned a career high 14 batters, good for the new single-game Washington record.
Kobe set the games started record for a career early in the season and already owns a multitude of records for the club, including career wins and strikeouts as well as a few single-season marks. Foster was dominant in his collegiate career, the end of which was spent at Tennessee Wesleyan University before coming to Washington in 2022 and winning the Frontier League’s Rookie of the Year award that summer. He was named the All-Frontier League Starting Pitcher as well.
Anthony Brocato is enjoying a career-type season as well in 2026. His 36 homers have him tied for the league’s single season record and three off a tie for the Frontier League career record in the department, a department he leads the circuit in this summer by nine homers (Czech’s 26 are second). Brocato is slashing .294/.376/.672 (1.047 OPS) and has scored 78 runs to go with 15 doubles and 83 RBI. It’s his second pro 83-RBI season (2024 with Southern Maryland). He was selected to his second midseason All-Star Game this summer and started in the outfield for the Midwest Conference, while this honor is his second postseason All-Star selection (2023 with Washington), though it’s not under the same name anymore with the switch last year to the All-Frontier League team.
The five honors were the most for any franchise in the awards announced today by the league, one day after Washington clinched its fifth division title in six seasons with last night’s win over Gateway. The three award winners and their teammates are preparing for the series finale with the Gateway Grizzlies, scheduled for 7:05 p.m., at EQT Park tonight.
