Packed House Sees Wild Things Upend Black Sox in Third Exhibition Game of Spring

WASHINGTON, Pa. (May 2) - In front of another packed house of enthusiastic students on a field trip to the ballyard, the Washington Wild Things upended the Road Warrior Black Sox in exhibition play, 7-3. Ricardo Sanchez highlighted the offensive day with a two-run homer.

The Black Sox started the scoring in the first inning on a lead-off homer by Michel Triana. That was the only run starter Kobe Foster yielded on the day. He allowed a single two batters later but finished his three innings of work by retiring the final eight batters he faced and whiffing three of them.

After a slow start offensively, Washington's bats broke through in the fourth. With one out, Tommy Caufield doubled to deep center and scored a batter later on a base hit by Jalen Miller. After the Black Sox got a run in the fifth, Washington began to pour it on a bit with a three-run fifth. Ricardo Sanchez's homer made it 3-2 Washington before a wild pitch scored the fourth Wild Things run of the contest. The Wild Things grabbed two more in the sixth in support of reliever Dariel Fregio, by walking five times, two of which came with the bases full, making it 6-2. Robert Chayka and JC Santini got RBI for those walks.

Fregio ended up going three innings. He allowed three hits and a run while he struck out two. Nick MacDonald worked a scoreless seventh and stranded a pair of runners in doing so. Edwar Polimir worked a scoreless eighth inning. He struck out two, and given the exhibition state, faced an extra hitter after the inning ended and fanned the batter.

Matt Dallas worked the ninth and allowed one run. Justin Goossen-Brown pitched in the 10th inning and induced a double play after a walk before getting the last batter on strikes. Sheldon Johnson drove in Jalen Miller with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th, which was played anyway.

Washington's next exhibition contest is scheduled for Saturday at Lake Erie. First pitch is at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast by the Crushers on FloSports.
