Wild Things Fall 2-1 in Five Innings

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.—In a shortened game due to thunderstorms, the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, fell to the Traverse City Beach Bums, 2-1, on Tuesday night.


Washington starting pitcher Casey Barnes (1-2) was on the mound for the whole game for the Wild Things, surrendering two runs (both earned) on four hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Barnes had three walks and two strikeouts before the game was called.


The Beach Bums scored their first run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by third baseman Jose Vargas, which drove in center fielder Zack Pace. Pace was 1-for-2 with one run.


The Wild Things scored their only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Kevyn Feiner, which drove in catcher Blake Ochoa. Feiner was 1-for-2 on the night with the RBI.


Traverse City starting pitcher Nolan Shaffer (3-0) pitched all five innings for the Beach Bums. Shaffer allowed one run (earned) on three hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.


The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park tomorrow night to face the Rockford RiverHawks at 6:35 p.m. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:25 p.m. on WJPA 95.3 FM.
